Traditional Country Pubs & Historic Inns

Across the New Forest you’ll find traditional country pubs full of character.

In Minstead, The Trusty Servant offers home-cooked food, local real ales and a large garden, with log fires that make winter visits especially welcoming.

Near Lyndhurst, The New Forest Inn champions locally sourced game and fresh fish, while The Royal Oak Hilltop near Beaulieu is a popular stop for walkers, visitors to the National Motor Museum - and even horse riders, thanks to its garden corrals.

The Waterloo Arms, a 17th-century pub in Lyndhurst, pairs history with classic pub favourites and a warm, relaxed atmosphere.

The Perfect Pub Stop After a New Forest Walk

Exploring the New Forest on foot? A pub stop is practically tradition.

Many pubs sit directly on walking routes, offering muddy-boot welcome, hearty portions and well-earned drinks. The Filly Inn, positioned between Brockenhurst and Lymington, is perfectly placed after a woodland walk, with forest access right opposite. Expect daily specials and popular Sunday lunches.

In Burley, The Burley Inn makes a great pause during a village wander, serving morning coffees, afternoon teas and generous roasts.

After miles of trails across heathland, woodland or coast, there’s nothing better than settling in with good food and a local ale.

Dog-Friendly Pubs in the New Forest

Walking with your four-legged friend? You’re in luck. Many dog-friendly pubs in the New Forest welcome muddy paws as warmly as they welcome people.

At The Commoners Bar in Brockenhurst, dogs are part of the family. With a laid-back atmosphere and a focus on good food and drink, it’s an ideal stop after exploring the surrounding forest trails.

Walhampton Arms, dating back to the 1880s, offers character, quality cask ales and a varied menu - and dogs are very much part of the experience.

On the edge of the forest, The Bold Forester is famously dog-friendly, welcoming pups into the bar, snug and garden (with homemade dog treats available too).

After a forest walk, it’s the perfect way to round off the day.
